What is Rajasthan Single Sign-On?

One ID, One Password, Every Service

Think about how many things a person in Rajasthan does with the government online. You pay an electricity bill. You apply for a government job. Your daughter applies for a scholarship. You download a caste certificate, check a pension, register a shop, file a grievance. Ten years ago each of those lived on a different website, and each website wanted its own account: its own username, its own password, its own forgotten-password misery.

Single Sign-On removes that. The idea is exactly what the name says: you sign on a single time, with a single identity, and every connected service accepts that sign-on. In Rajasthan that single identity is your SSO ID (you will also see it written as SSOID), and the system behind it is the RajSSO portal at sso.rajasthan.gov.in. Log in there once and your dashboard opens with the government applications you are entitled to use: no second login, no separate registration for each department.

One line to remember: the SSO ID is not one more government account, it is the account that replaces all the others. That is why nearly every Rajasthan e-service today, from e-Mitra to the recruitment portal to scholarship applications, starts with the same screen: "Login with SSO".

How Single Sign-On Works

Here is the mechanism, without jargon. When you open a government service, that service does not check your password itself. It sends you to the SSO portal, the portal checks who you are (your SSO ID, your password, sometimes an OTP), and then vouches for you to the service. The service trusts the portal's word and lets you in. One gatekeeper, many doors. Tap any service in the figure below to see the route your login takes.

This design is also why the system is safer than the old way. Your password lives in one place, guarded by one team, instead of being copied across dozens of departmental databases of very different quality. When you change it, it changes everywhere at once. And when a department launches a new online service, it does not build a login system at all: it plugs into SSO and inherits yours.

Who Built It, and Since When

Rajasthan Single Sign-On is built and run by the Department of Information Technology and Communication (DoIT&C), Government of Rajasthan. That in-house detail matters: the department's own project document describes RajSSO as a first-of-its-kind SSO initiative in Indian e-governance, developed, implemented and maintained by DoIT&C itself and hosted in the Rajasthan State Data Centre, with a disaster-recovery site in Jodhpur. It was not bought off a shelf; it was written for Rajasthan, in Rajasthan.

On the date: many guides online say the system launched in 2013, and the number gets copied from site to site. The department's own project presentation records the RajSSO portal as commissioned on 1 May 2015. The groundwork is older, but if you want the date the government itself puts on the portal, it is May 2015.

The Scale of It

The most recent detailed public figures come from DoIT&C's own project presentation, reported as of 27 November 2021. They are worth reading slowly, because they describe one of the largest state identity systems in the country:

The system has only grown since. DoIT&C today describes SSO as one secure digital identity for hundreds of Rajasthan government services, and our own helpdesk directory on this site lists 399 connected applications with their own support contacts. For a sense of proportion: 2.25 crore identities in 2021 already meant roughly one SSO ID for every three people in the state, and every government office, school, college, thana and panchayat runs on the same system its citizens use.

The Three Kinds of SSO Account

Everyone gets the same one-login promise, but the portal knows three kinds of people, and each registers with a different proof of who they are. When you create an ID you first pick which of these you are, and the dashboard you see afterwards is shaped by that choice: a citizen sees citizen services, a business sees licensing and compliance, a government employee sees office systems.

One nuance people miss: the citizen route is not strictly limited to Rajasthan. The department's own document lists residents of India and other countries among the system's intended users, and a Google-account registration works from anywhere. What is limited is the services themselves: anything built on Jan Aadhaar, like most welfare schemes, is for Rajasthan residents by definition. What Can You Actually Do With It

Almost everything. The honest answer is a directory, not a paragraph, so here is an explorable sample of real applications connected to SSO, drawn from the same registry our 399-entry helpdesk directory is built on. Your SSO ID Itself

So what exactly is the SSO ID? It is a username: a short handle that identifies you across the whole system. When you register, the portal derives or lets you choose one, and it pairs with the password you set and the mobile number you verify. Your profile behind it carries your name, date of birth, address, email and mobile, and links to your identity records: your Jan Aadhaar ID and your Aadhaar reference are shown from the source systems rather than typed in fresh, which is what keeps one person tied to one identity.

The account also comes with quiet extras most people never notice they have. Raj eVault is a digital locker where government-issued documents live in verified form. eSign lets you digitally sign documents. And every account can have a Rajmail address on rajasthan.in, the state's own email system, which the department offers in both English and Hindi forms. None of these need a separate registration; they hang off the same SSO identity.

The design principle underneath is one person, one ID. In practice, people end up with two or three: an old one made years ago with a forgotten Google account, a new one made in a cyber cafe before an exam form, a Government Employee ID created on joining service while a Citizen ID still floats around. The portal treats this as a problem worth fixing, and gives you a proper tool for it: you can deactivate a duplicate and merge its history into the ID you keep. Logging In, Start to Finish

1. Open the sign-in page

   Go to sso.rajasthan.gov.in/signin. Check the address bar: the official portal is always on rajasthan.gov.in.

2. Enter your SSO ID and password

   Type your SSO ID (username), your password, and the captcha shown on screen.

3. Or use another way in

   The sign-in page also accepts Jan Aadhaar based login with an OTP, and Meri Pehchaan, the national single sign-on, if you already have that.

4. Land on your dashboard

   Your dashboard lists the applications available to your account type. Open any of them; no further login is asked for. The full walkthrough with screenshots of each field is on our Login page.

Is It Safe to Use

The architecture is the first protection: because services never see your password, a weak departmental website cannot leak it. On top of that the portal verifies the sensitive moments with a second factor. Changing your mobile number or email, saving profile edits, and recovering a lost ID or password are all confirmed by an OTP to your registered mobile, and the department's own documentation lists mobile OTP alongside Aadhaar OTP, fingerprint and iris as supported multi-factor options.

The practical risks are the ordinary ones, and they are on your side of the screen. Keep your password and OTPs to yourself: no SSO official ever asks for them. Before you type your password, read the address bar and make sure you are on sso.rajasthan.gov.in, not a lookalike. Keep your registered mobile number current, because every recovery route runs through it; our Update Profile page shows how to change it. And if you share a computer, at a kiosk or a cyber cafe, log out when you finish.

One more trap worth naming: the app stores. If you search the Play Store for an SSO login app, the popular "SSO Rajasthan" results are third-party apps built by private developers, not by DoIT&C, and typing your SSO ID and password into one of them hands your credentials to a stranger. The department's own app on the store, RajSSO-AMS, is an attendance tool for government employees, not a citizen login app. For your SSO account, use the portal in your browser.
